What is Home Healthcare?

Home Healthcare:

Home healthcare refers to any medical or non-medical care provided in a patient’s home or where they call home. These healthcare services are provided by skilled medical professionals including but not limited to:

Medical Home Healthcare:

  • Doctors
  • Certified Skilled Nursing
  • Physical Therapists
  • Occupational Therapists
  • Speech Therapists

Non-Medical Home Healthcare:

  • Assistance w/ Daily Living Activities
  • Personal Care Assistant
  • Medical Social Services

Note: Medicare does not pay for the following:

  • 24-hour-a-day care at home
  • Meals delivered to your home
  • Homemaker services (like shopping, cleaning, and laundry), when this is the only care you need
  • Custodial or personal care (like bathing, dressing, or using the bathroom), when this is the only care you need

Home healthcare is described as a unique care setting not only because the care is provided in the comfort of the patient’s home but the provided care is usually less expensive, just as effective, and more convenient than care provided at a skilled nursing facility.
